Samenvatting
Plica-chan is het bitterzoete, realistische verhaal van Plica, een jonge lesbienne die op zoek is naar liefde in het moderne Japan. Nadruk op het bittere in plaats van op het zoete – niet omdat Plica geen liefde vindt, begrijp me niet verkeerd! Bitter omdat ze gewoon een bittere meid is.
De manga, geschreven in stripstijl met vier panelen, verscheen oorspronkelijk in het tijdschrift Anise en staat nu in de LOUD News, de nieuwsbrief van de LOUD-organisatie. Het is ook online te vinden. Plica's opmerkingen gaan vaak over de aard van seksualiteit, de relaties tussen mannen en vrouwen, en tussen vrouwen en vrouwen.
De hele strip begint op een lage toon, als Plica terugkeert van de bruiloft van een ex-geliefde. Maar niet lang daarna ontmoet Plica Mari, voor wie ze al snel gevoelens begint te krijgen. Maar zoals de meeste butches is Plica te onzeker om iets te proberen. Godzijdank is femme Mari, zoals zoveel femmes, volkomen bereid om te doen wat ze wil. Zij en Plica zijn sindsdien samen. Zoals ik al zei, het is een bitterzoete strip – eerder realistisch dan fantasievol, dus verwacht geen rozen en lelies. 🙂
De kunst is even wennen als je gewend bent aan de meer traditionele mangastijl, maar het is goed om af en toe een pauze te nemen van het gebruikelijke. 🙂
